That's gonna happen, so if you want the dye to last you shouldn't wash your hair a lot.

The brighter(more artificial) the red you use, the faster it will fade. reds closer to browns will last longer, i know they aent as fun but its your choice.

If you used a semi-permanent color it will continue to wash out. If you used a permanent color from a box it lifted and then deposited, leaving the cuticle open and will continue to wash out. If you want it to stay then you will need to get the color in a professional line at a beauty supply and use a 10 volume peroxide to deposit only or a demi-permanent color in the same line with the recommended prompter. And for extra stay you should deep condition first.

Red is the hardest color to keep vibrant and bright. I would say the problem is right in your question. You bleached and colored your own hair. The pigments in over the counter colors are generally larger in size than ones the pros use. Meaning that the color you deposited wasn't small enough to process into the hair, past the cuticle. Therefore really just staining the hair.

I always dye my hair red. Like burgandy red. It always fades when I shampoo. I suggest buying the hair dye that comes with the color glaze that you can use when your color fades. It helps to keep your color vibrant. But red is a very high maintance color. You will probably be dying it once a month to keep that same color. Good Luck!
