Hair coloring and dying?

I hear that you have to get your hair colored first THEN your haircut.How come you can't do this the other way around,haircut THEN hair colored?Or is that just a rumor?

you dont have to but its suggested that you cut it after because the dye does a certain number of damage on yer hair, such as split ends. its just better so you cut the damage off after its colored

you get it cut after the coloring..so that they can trim off your split ends or any damage that the coloring may cause..

I believe it has something to do with the ends of your hair being "open" or something after a haircut and it absorbs the dye differently.
