Hair coloring experts~my hair always turns red and light no matter what color dye is put on it....?

I am a 52 year old woman. My natural hair color is brown and gray. I have my hair professionally dyed~ highlighted and low-lighted. Even if an ash brown is put in my hair, it will turn reddish and eventually lighten up a lot. People think I am trying to be a blond, but I'm not!!! I try to keep it covered in the sun, and I use special shampoo products that supposedly have UV filters in them. Any suggestions I can give to my hair stylist?

The best thing for you to use is the ash brown but make sure the number contains an N. If you have a Sallys nearby go there and try the Beautiful Browns line by Miss Clairol, it is a semi permamnent and can be put on the hair without mixing any developer and it should last about 2-3 weeks and will fade gradually. If you find that this is the color you want then you can add 20 vol developer to it in equal parts and it will last about 4-6 weeks. Ash Brown has a green base which cancels out the red. Maybe you are not leaving it on long enough. I hope this helps.

quit dying your hair and let it go natural and it won't turn red.

maybe your hair is to oily, you should do a long shampoo (leave in for 5 minutes, then rinse) this dries your hair and makes it easier to dye, DO NOT USE CONDITIONER BEFORE COLORING.

Your hairstylist should know how to deal with this. She or he has a license that once required them to learn it. If they do not know how, find another salon.

There are colour specialists out there. Go find a good one, but you must be prepared to pay them.

Avoid semi-permanent colours, and red shades, of course.
