i hav blackish brown hair nd i rly rly want to color the bottom of my hair blu. som of my friends say i hav to bleach my hair to color it blu but can i not bleach it?? will it just turn into a dark blu? som help plzz?

i have really dark hair and did it burgundy. not the clairol burgundy, but manic panic burgundy. it took, yes it was darker than if i had bleached first, but it was definately noticable. it was a bit blood red. you should try a strand and the back of your neck and see what it comes out like. if its too dark, then bleach first

i it has to be bleeched i have browny blacky hair and i bought blue hair dye and me and my friend did it in my science lesson and it didnt work so i did it at home still didnt work so i asked my hair dresser and she said u have to bleech it

if you dont bleach your hair first it will just give your hair a blue tint. so if you are wanting a bright blue you will have to bleach it. try got2be bleaching kit. it comes with everything you need

Yes you have to bleach it otherwise the color won't show, also it depends on the brand your using. However the dye could leave a tint, but it's your choice. I honestly think that if you want it a nice big bright blue, bleach your hair but make sure you know how to take care of your bleached hair afterwards. Blue is a color that is pretty darn finicky! With really dark hair, unless you bleach it first, you'll only end up with a bluish sheen that can only be seen from a certain angle - no real color otherwise.

As I learned the hardway, even blondes need to bleach before going blue. I didn't (I'm a natural blonde) and my hair turned out green.

You have to bleach it if you want it to show up, otherwise it will be a dark dark blue and probably won't take and will look dumb. On the other hand, radical colors like blue, pink, purple, etc....will fade extremely fast and the bleached hair will start to show through.

Don't do it, it will just destroy your hair and won't look good after the first day you wash it.

You do have to bleach it.

If you put blue dye on dark hair, its just going to make your hair shine dark blue in bright light.

Trust me, theres no possible way to have blue hair without bleaching it first.

Well, you can dye it a darker shade of blonde but it wont turn out as nice as bleached hair does.

if you bleach the place you want it to be blue it will come out better. especially if you want a specific color of blue. dying a dark hair blue won't look as nice as dying the bleached hair. and the color will come out brighter too.

you're in luck! I just color my hubby's hair with a permanent blue. Yes, permanent. Manic panic will turn your hair blue but it fades so fast and comes off on your pillow and such. Go to Sally's and ask for some help finding things, but here's what you need:

Blue intensifier (only deposits color)

A color with blue in it, such as a cool blonde.

10 Volume developer

Mix 1 inch blonde, 1 parts blue, and 1 parts developer. Process for 30 minutes. Wash, dry, style. Blue.

When I say 1 inch of blonde, I mean litterally, squeeze out and inch long piece of blonde color. If you are only doing the bottom of your hair you won't need more than half a tube of the blue. The tubes are marked with ounces, so measure out the develoer with a measuring cup. This mixture is too thick to put on with a bottle, so you will need a color bowl and color brush. They have them at sallys for CHEAP.

the reason for the blonde is that the intesifier needs an actual color to bond with in the hair. The 10 volume developer will only lift a max of 1 shade so its perfect if you're just depositing.

The only other thing I recommend is getting a tub of manic panic in midnight blue just for touch ups to keep your color bright and vibrant. You can mix it with shampoo in a bottle and just wash the blue part of your hair with it once a week or so.

A lot of people's hair turns green because they either used a shade of blue that was too light for them or they bleached their hair way too much and it refused to hold the color. That's what happens when you bleach your hair, the cuticle opens to allow the bleach inside to rearange the molecules, and when you do an intense bleach, your cuticle doesn't close all the way even with conditioner, so when you put color on it, the goes in, stains a little bit, but comes right back out. But since you are ok with dark blue, and this will be dark blue, it should come out just fine.
